Dear Friend,

For 32 years, the Fifth Ward Enrichment Program, Inc. (FWEP) has continuously demonstrated, in its history of service to our community and in the mentoring of Houston’s most under-served youth, that “Our Boys Matter! Please join us and our keynote speaker, City of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, as FWEP hosts its 15th Annual Luncheon on Thursday, October 13, 2016, 11:30 am, at The Junior League of Houston.

The annual luncheon has been our signature fundraising event since 1995. Past luncheons have honored some of Houston’s most outstanding citizens and leaders, including former City of Houston Mayor Lee P. Brown, former HISD Superintendent Rod Paige, Houston Texan’s owner Bob McNair, and Windsor Village United Methodist Church Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell. We are excited that our “Heart of Houston” luncheon honoree and award recipient in 2006, Mayor Turner, then a Texas State Representative, returns as our keynote speaker to help launch the continuation of this great event!

FWEP is a community-based, youth development and empowerment program designed to preempt negative environmental influences on adolescent inner-city males. FWEP's holistic approach to youth development is a unique program providing sustained mentoring with a comprehensive, after-school program that is comprised of activities and services that guide youth toward building self-esteem, developing self-efficacies, making valued decisions, acquiring knowledge of post-secondary education opportunities, and graduating from high school.  Each year, FWEP engages more than 200 boys and continues to expand its services further into northeast Houston’s school district. Program services now extend from our original Fifth Ward base of operations into four adjoining zip codes! Since 1996, 90% of the boys who have successfully completed our after-school program have been promoted to the next grade level or graduated from their respective high schools.

We need your support to help sustain FWEP as one of the most successful programs in Houston in the guidance of boys towards responsible citizenship and contributing manhood.  By sponsoring this event, you become a partner and community stakeholder in the social development of one of our city’s and country’s most vulnerable populations – urban, male youth of color.

Please take a moment to complete and return the attached Sponsor Form. We thank you in advance for your support of the Fifth Ward Enrichment Program. Our boys do matter!
