Dear Friends,
My most compelling desire, indeed my unceasing prayer is for the
Fifth Ward Enrichment Program (FWEP) to be in the strongest, healthiest
condition it has been since its inception. I glance back at our work,
I see how far we've come and the good we've done. History and
proven track records are important to note. The true challenge
however lies ahead. How can we manage to refine our efforts, to
hone our skills, to utilize our resources and become better stewards
for the sake of our mission? These are the more important questions,
not how good we've been or how many we've enabled yesterday.
In the twenty-four year
lifespan of the FWEP, some very narrow trails and twisted curves
have been traversed. From a small seed, a germ of a notion took
soil. This seed was a knowledge and hope that honest, caring men
could affect some positive outcomes in the lives of young men of
color in one small neighbiorhood. In this manner the FWEP was born.
The FWEP is not a single
person, nor is it the property of a clique or an elite group. The
FWEP is truly a community under construction. We are network dependent,
we are continuously evolving. We are a village, a curious mix of folk
who take their supervision from the needs and aspirations of our youth. We
think with our hearts and feel with our minds. We are guided by
love and a set of principles.
Please review our web
pages. Give us your impressions. Take time to reflect on our efforts,
our vision. Can you see a glimpse, some traces of what we are grasping
for? Do you have thoughts and dreams common to ours? Can we work
together and be friends?
We need
your prayers and thoughts, your kind considerations, good deeds,
energy and dollars. Please respond now. Reply in any manner you
deem fit and in harmony with your own circumstances. You know better
than we could ever imagine of what you can do to help. Please know
that it is our partnership for a better future- the relationships
with our youth in society- that is in need of nurturing.
Peace and Continued
Blessings,
