“HEART
OF
HOUSTON” AWARDS
EVENT
Fifth Ward Enrichment Program, Inc.
2010
Dear Friends and Supporters:
The Fifth Ward Enrichment Program (FWEP) will be hosting its 12th annual Heart of Houston luncheon “Celebrating the Past and Future of Greater Fifth Ward“, on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Fifth Ward Multi-Service Center, 4014 Market Street, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year’s honoree is Marcus Davis, chief steward of the breakfast klub and reggae hut restaurants. As president and CEO of the breakfast klub, inc., Marcus may prefer the title “chief steward,” but his personal story of hard work, education, and perseverance, along with his pursuit of excellence, has made him a model of success for all youth to emulate. Especially those youth who, like him, are products of Houston’s greater Fifth Ward and its surrounding neighborhoods. For more than 25 years, the Fifth Ward Enrichment Program has provided services and programs designed to empower boys to become responsible men and productive members of their families and community – like Marcus Davis. We invite you to continue to support the Fifth Ward Enrichment Program and become a valued sponsor.
The Fifth Ward Enrichment Program intends to raise awareness to the benefits gained through collaborations with other community-based organizations and seek to strengthen its operations capacities. Technology, personnel development and staff training are just some of the key issues organizations like FWEP continue to address. Charles Savage, Executive Director explains, “Organizations like ours are positioned to impact more lives, therefore we must be able to compete with other workforce sectors for skillful bright, enthusiastic and compassionate people if we are to maintain our high standard of service. FWEP must become unassailable financially if we are to continue our mission for the next 25 years. As the philanthropic community begins to tighten its belt and becomes more selective in it’s giving, collaborations and partnerships are the key to sustainability”, argues Savage.
The Heart of Houston recognizes individuals for their tremendous commitment to Houston and its citizens. Previous recipients include former Houston Mayor Lee P. Brown, Houston Texans owner-president, Bob McNair, State Representative Sylvester Turner, Pastor Kirbyjon Caldwell and City Attorney Anthony Hall. “The Heart of Houston is our signature gesture to highlight these great citizens, philanthropist, public officials, business leaders, and community stakeholders. Their commitment and support for what we do each day is evident in their investment of resources and time to the city of Houston and Harris County,” said Savage.
We thank you in advance and look forward to your continued support of the Fifth Ward Enrichment Program. More information about the Heart of Houston Annual Luncheon can be found below.
