| Parent
and Family Liaison (PFL) |
The
Parent and Family Liaison (PFL) coordinates activities
for, and acts as a mentor to, the parents and guardians
of the male youth participants in the Fifth Ward Enrichment
Program (FWEP). These activities are focused on creating
a parent support system that enhances parenting skills
and empo wers
parents to better support all of their children’s
activities, whether in FWEP, at school or in other community
programs. Activities include monthly parent meetings,
parenting-skill classes, workshops, leadership retreats,
parent-child outings, and parents’ review the FWEP
life-management skills curriculum taught in the after-school
program.
The
PFL goal is to increase and sustain parent participation
by developing parent leaders at each targeted FWEP school
site. These parent leaders will be expected to plan and help
coordinate increased parent involvement in the schools and
address youth-related issues as a FWEP advisory council.
